Checking the sender address in e-mails (in case of scams)

If you are unsure about the sender of an e-mail (perhaps posing as a different sender) you can check the sending address by looking at the email header.

You may receive e-mails claiming to be from Green Hosting (or someone else), asking you to click a link, open an attachment or carry out another action that may be harmful. First of all, in this situation, never click any links, never open any attachments and never provide your log-in details or other information about yourself or your hosting account.

Always act with caution! Green Hosting will never email you unexpectedly to ask you to share any of these details or to click a link to reset your e-mail password.

To gather more information about the e-mail sender, you can check the sending e-mail address in the message you have received. To do this you need to look in the e-mail's header. How you do this varies, depending on the email client (e.g Outlook, Apple Mail etc) you use. See your specific e-mail client's support to find out how to do this.

To check in Roundcube (provided in your Green Hosting CPanel webmail) > Open an e-mail, click the 'more' link with the three dots, select 'show source'

Once you can see the e-mail's header, check the 'return path' and 'envelope from' address. This can help you determine whether you think the e-mail was sent from an expected or trusted source.

Alongside these precautions you must take measures to keep your e-mails and your hosting account safe at all times.
